 Dr.
Rex Hawthorne:
Dr. Hawthorne is pretty
much a home grown Vernon guy; his family moved here in the mid
70s. He attended St. James Elementary School and graduated
from W.L. Seaton Secondary in 1986. Before continuing with
his post secondary education, he spent a year in Argentina on a Rotary
Exchange. Rumour has it, he still speaks a little Spanish!
Dr. Hawthorne began his
post secondary education here in Vernon at the college, followed by a
year in Kelowna at Okanagan College. He then attended UBC
where he graduated in 1991 with his B.Sc. in Animal Biology.
He was accepted into the Faculty of Dentistry again at UBC and
graduated with his D.M.D in 1995.
He then moved back to
Vernon to begin his career. Dr. Hawthorne associated with Dr.
Clark and Dr. Burnham, before purchasing Dr. Burnham's dental practice
in 1996. In 2001, Dr. Hawthorne moved the practice from
downtown to their new location in the Cornerstone Dental Building on 27th
Street.
Dr.
Hawthorne is an
active member of both an orthodontic (braces) and endodontic (root
canals) study club. He has also taken numerous courses in the
areas of cosmetic, laser, microscopic and general dentistry.
When not spending time
with his children, Makayla and Reece and girlfriend Melissa, Dr. H
enjoys most sports. Some of his favourites include skiing,
wakeboarding, kite-boarding, and biking. He also enjoys
tinkering around with computers.
 Dr. Dan Rootes:
Dr.
Dan
Rootes was born May 31, 1977 and raised in North Vancouver, British
Columbia.
He attended the University of British Columbia (UBC) obtaining his
degree in
Agricultural Sciences. He continued to pursue Dentistry through UBC and
received his DMD in May 2006. While attending UBC he played on the
Varsity
Football Team, winning a National Championship in 1997 and was awarded
All-Star
recognition.
Upon graduating, Dr. Rootes decided to make the trek east to Calgary.
During
this time he learned the power of continuing education and how
important it is
to continue learning in order to serve his patients to the best of his
abilities. He enjoys all aspects of dentistry, but is especially
interested in
Prosthodontics, Esthetics, Endodontics, and Family Dentistry. Recently,
Dr.
Rootes was awarded "Outstanding Promise as a Young Dentist" with a
scholarship to attend LVI courses, selected from numerous affiliations
within
the dental community. He is a Certified Laser Therapist, completed an
externship in oral surgery at the Lincoln Medical Hospital in New York
and has
attended numerous other continuing education courses in the past 5
years.
With
building a family as their number one priority, Dr. Rootes and his wife
Kelli
have decided that Vernon is the perfect place for this purpose. In his off hours, Dan
enjoys spending time
with his wife, his dog Jack, and family and friends. You can find him
playing
hockey, coaching football or on the slopes of any mountain during the
winter
months. In the summer; golfing, fishing, surfing or just barbequing on
a patio
are considered ideal pastimes in his mind.
Dan is very excited to be joining the
Vernon community and looks forward
to helping all of his patients in obtaining a happy and healthy smile.
